The day that Lindsey said she was going to the circus, (dressed resplendent in her red jacket and riding boots) would prompt me to ask her who she was going with and when. Her response would then trigger me to engage her with rolling the newspapers and advertising material, and we would walk the streets together – we three women, sparing Lindsey from the moment of her near death, and me the infernal horror and guilt that rained on me interminably.
